Footcandle Films

Do you enjoy listening to people talk about films? What about those films that may not show up at the local multiplex but are instead showing at the smaller specialty theater across town? Then ”Footcandle Films” may be the show for you. Each month, the hosts discuss and review one ”smaller” film in-depth, discuss upcoming film news, and give recommendations on films that you may not be aware of, ones that you haven’t remembered in a while, or ones that are worth your time checking out. And all the while, the conversation never gets too ”high-brow” or pretentious. Just two guys who enjoy talking about movies. Your Hosts: Alan Jackson and Chris Frye, founders of the Footcandle Film Society.

Traveling through time – both films this episode feature it…but one’s a biopic? No – you didn’t miss a news story on CNN about a scientific breakthrough. “The Imitation Game” makes generous use of flashbacks to show events in mathematician Alan Turing’s life, while “Predestination” goes the fictional fantastical route of jumping eras using a special violin case. After the gents finish reviewing these they rattle off some news stories and give their monthly recommendations.

First up is Richard Linklater’s Boyhood which took 12 years to make and used the same cast. Afterwards they discuss Frank starring Michael Fassbender as the titular enigmatic musician who always wears a gigantic paper mache head. Keeping the theme of smaller independent films the hosts then mention some news items and round out the show with their recommendations of films to check out.
